Little and Big Maria Montessori
Maria Montessori (Chiaravalle, 1870 · Noordwijk, 1952) studied mathematics and science at a boys' school and later decided to study medicine, graduating as the first female doctor in Italy. She later became known for her support of women's rights and for her respect for patients of all backgrounds. She worked in a psychiatric hospital with disabled children and believed that through play and special care, they would improve and learn more. With her revolutionary ideas and respectful attitude, she transformed the educational system. Although she died in 1952, her legacy continues today in Montessori schools around the world.
