Dal. Tarot Castellano
Legend has it that during preparations for the James Bond film Live and Let Die, producer Albert Broccoli commissioned surrealist master Salvador Dali to design a deck of tarot cards. Probably inspired by Gala, which fuelled his interest in mysticism, Dali set to work. He was enthusiastic about the project and continued with it even though a deal with the producer ultimately fell through. His designs were published as limited-edition artworks in 1984. It is the first known deck of tarot cards to be conceived by a leading artist. Tarot dates back to the Renaissance. Considered by some to be a method of interpreting dreams or predicting the future, it saw its popularity rise in the 1970s thanks to the hippie movement. Now TASCHEN is bringing back all 78 cards from Dali's irresistible deck, which features fascinating depictions of characters and symbols such as the Magician, the Lovers, the Moon, Death, the High Priest, and the Empress, designed using a collage of drawings, icons, and splashes of color. The deck comes with a booklet by Johannes Fiebig, a renowned German tarot expert.
