The EX89 shoe combines the heritage of the 1989 GEL-EXTREME basketball shoe with modern cushioning properties. Created by Toshikazu Kayano in the late 1980s, it was his first design project for ASICS. The layered leather construction of the upper is also accompanied by an energetic contrasting colorway that matches the iconic team uniforms of the time. We have enhanced the heel wedge with FF BLAST cushioning. These technologies combine with a sculpted heel counter to enhance shock absorption and protect the foot during any activity. The design replicates the view of a city from the sky. This functional support feature is originally inspired by the designer’s first business trip to the United States in 1987.
